Ballet
When
are classes on?
Ballet is a formalized kind of performance dance, which
originated in the Italian Renaissance courts of the 15th
century, and which was further developed in France, Russia, and
Britain as a concert dance form. It has become a highly
technical form of dance with its own vocabulary. It is primarily
performed with the accompaniment of classical music and has been
influential as a form of dance globally.
We encourage children to study dance subjects in groups so as to
broaden their technique from an early age. Our Infant Theatre
Dance classes study Ballet, Tap & Modern Stage. Children are
prepared for
amateur examinations with the Northern Counties Dance
Teachers Association (NCDTA). Children do not have to take these
exams but we do encourage them as they are an excellent way to
track progression and certify the standard they achieve. (This
is particularly important if a child goes onto professional
dance and is also an excellent addition to any C.V.). We do have
class displays (usually at Christmas) that all class children
are given the opportunity to take part in. If a child is
particularly interested in performing, they should also enrol in
our Stage School classes.
